Over one hundred & twenty five years ago, on a summer evening on June 24th of 1876, nine Englishmen met in the house of J.D. Gordon Esq., C.S.I. and passed the resolution “To start a Golf Club, to be called Bangalore Golf Club, in this station.”
The course currently plays to a yardage of 6118 yards from the Blue tees and 5278 yards from the Red tees.
A tight & challenging Par 70 course.
The following are the IGU approved USGA Course / Slope Rating of BGC. Blue Tees: 68.3/120, Red Tees (Men): 63.9/112, Red Tees (Women): 70.6/121
Two water bodies, a mature tree line (that one needs to avoid), tight fairways bordered by boundary walls that are all Out of Bounds.
Faiways have Buffalo grass and the greens are made with Bermuda grass. Greens can play fast, especially when the weather is dry.

BGC is the oldest golf course outside of the British Isles. Established on a summer evening on June 24th of 1876, the land was previously used by an army regiment as a rifle range & training area. The course started as a 12 hole design & was transformed many a time, the last being a redesign in 2000.
The annual tournaments between BGC & the Madras Gymkhana club (started in 1878) are the oldest inter-club annual matches anywhere in the world. In 2002, the fully redesigned course was opened & had the distinction of being one of the few courses in India that pioneered the use of recycled effluent water for irrigation of tees, fairways & greens. During the redesign, the brief was to accommodate an 18 hole course in a 60 acre plot (a rather tight squeeze), with a minimum of criss-crossing & without cutting a single tree.
